Fix mobile data drain – Podcast Addict

This is a solution to stop the massive mobile data use in the android play app, Podcast Addict.

I was getting warnings from my service provider that I was going over my data limit each month and using huge amounts of mobile data

Since I use (and love) Podcast Addict and download only over Wi-Fi I thought it must be some other app eating all my data. Another month of ridiculous mobile usage (2.5 Gb) and I finally discovered that I could see how much data (mobile and Wi-Fi) each application uses on my phone. Guess what? The Podcast Addict app was guilty. To stop this data drain, you can purchase the app and/or change the ad delivery to “interstitial”. This is how I fixed it. I hope it is helpful to you.

Best Ad settings for Podcast Addict, the best Podcast player for Android (in my humble opinion).

  1. First, set all your downloads to WI-Fi only. SELECT the setting section from the main screen.

  2. SELECT “App Settings” from the pop-up sub-menu.

  3. SELECT Network settings.

  4. SELECT settings for Wi-Fi

On this page, I check all the settings for “Wi-Fi only”. This includes episode downloads, streaming, radio station (I don’t use), updates and thumbnails download. I have unlimited Wi-Fi at home, so these settings are great for me. (btw, there are advanced options such as a Wi-Fi filter so you can specify that only certain Wi-Fi networks can be used, but I won’t go into that detail here. ) Make the selections here that suit you.

Okay, now lets go sort out the ad delivery…

  5. Next, stay on Network page and scroll down to Donate/Remove Ads

    SELECT Donate/Remove Ads

  6. SELECT Ad format (skip to Step 8 for purchase option)

  7. Interstitial Magic

Okay, this is the key step – select interstitial for the ad format.

  8. Purchase Podcast Addict

You can also select Donate/Remove Ads to purchase the app from the Google Play Store

  9. Purchase from Google Play (Ad-free)

At the time I put this together, the app was $4.29.
