I have had a cold/flu that really put me off doing much – including sewing the wiggle dress. So frustrating. I want to play with my new sewing machine.
The wiggle dress by Patterns for Pirates is stunning. Since my own shape and age are not wiggle friendly, I didn’t think I would be able to try out this beautiful pattern. Luckily, when I showed her the pattern, my son’s beautiful fiancée said she would definitely wear it. I found a lovely soft green French Terry fabric and was off to the races.
The pattern and instructions were a pleasure to work with as usual. I initially did the seams with my Quantum Pro 9960 (since I really wanted to work with it). I selected the triple zigzag stitch for strong seams, but that created tiny puckers all along the center back seam from the thickness of the thread against the soft stretchy FT. It sure was a strong seam though! It didn’t look that bad really, but in the end I went back and serged the seams. I’m glad I did because the seam is really perfect now and much smoother on the outside of the garment.
Wiggle Neckline
I wasn’t sure about the elastic around the neckline, but it was surprisingly easy and looked really nice and comfortable. I grabbed a quick picture of her as she was headed out so her scarf covers it – but it is good. As a midwife, she needs a comfortable, casual-but-professional style. She completed her outfit with black leotards, a sweater and a scarf.
From my cold, my ears are plugged up too. It was kinda funny that when I used the serger, the sound reverberated inside my head and I thought a train was coming through – weird! Think I’ll just walk away from the serger for now.
Over to the coverstitch CPX 1000 for hemming. I hemmed the bottom of the dress and sleeves with the double-cover stitch. Photos are not the best as she was wearing the dress at the time.
