Slasher Halloween 2015

You are here: Home / Sewing Projects to Make / Halloween Costume Series / Slasher Halloween 2015

Originally posted: October 30, 2015

This year for the Annual Halloween Bash™ I made our Halloween costumes from a rather random selection of items from the Value Village Halloween costumes section of the store.

I found these really long, Victorian type jackets that were really, really inexpensive and I loved them and bought one for each of us.  I formulated the idea that Hub could be the “real” Jack the Ripper and I would be a victim.  Actually, I didn’t like that too much in the end – so decided we could both be Rippers – Jack and Jacqueline – male and female suspects.  So, I thought I would dress us up in vaguely Victorian England inspired outfits around the coats and then splash blood across us for the Halloween costumes / ripper part.  I seem to recall that the ripper was thought to be a doctor or at least a respectable upstanding citizen of the time.  So I thought we should be dressed on that assumption anyway.  We should also be obnoxious and arrogant.  Hub pulled that off well.

Costume Details

For my costume, I wore a full length white dress/shift just gathered at the top and dragged on the floor (on me).  I decorated my hat with little white flowers all around the rim. To echo Hub’s outfit, I found a long string of plastic pearls and a black feathery scarf.  He wore a white shirt and white satiny shiny bow-tie along with his trusty top hat.  I added a white silk scarf to complete his look. We both wore long black coats on top.  We slashed some red paint across both of us to imply the inevitable blood spatter.

Of all our Halloween costumes in the last few years, I just couldn’t get into this one as much. It was fun to put together and definitely comfortable, but I couldn’t get the look and idea to connect.  We struggled and switched so many times as to how to explain our costumes that in the end I just said, “We murder people as a couple – in Victorian times”.  Nevermind …  I’m going to try to prepare a bit better for next year’s Halloween costumes! Meet the Rippers.

Our hosts once again outdid themselves with their yellow outfits.
