SteamPunk Halloween 2012

Kevin's Steam Punk Adult Halloween Costume

So this is the time for me to review our adult couple Halloween costumes that we purchased from buycostumes.com.  Every year, my brother and sister-in-law host a Halloween costume party for grownups. Before I started attending these events, I was reluctant and didn’t really think I’d like it too much.  I enjoyed dressing up when I was little – although maybe the anticipation was really for the sweets – and had a lot of fun creating costumes for my kids when they were young. I hadn’t dressed up myself in quite a few years. Well, it was surprisingly fun and we are definitely looking forward to next year!

Yes they really were a bit cheap and plasticky (as expected at this price point) , but detailed enough and lots of fun.  Hub really loves all things  SteamPunk, so I had to try.  The fit was as described so no issues there either.  Love the boots coverings and little details.  Granted, it was a little uncomfortable to wear all night really due to the material, but then I guess that is to be expected with Halloween costumes right? Hub had no comfort problems and enjoyed the googles.  I’m sure the alcohol contributed to that to a certain degree. Note to self: A top hat on a 6’2″ man is maybe a little much.  He hit every overhead light in the house!  (I didn’t have any problems with that myself)  In fact, the biggest issue I had with the costumes really, was that hardly anyone “got” it.  I would say, “You know, SteamPunk!”  Crickets.

I wasn’t sure exactly what the makeup should be, so I just smeared some around Hub’s eyes and added some darkening to the beard.  This year, I did not drink and so was a designated driver and able to ensure the safe return home of several friends and ourselves.   Next year, we will try to plan ahead a bit.

Highlights from others

So we seem to have some incredibly creative friends. My brother and his wife (the hosts) were Eddy and Magenta from the Rocky Horror Picture show. I literally didn’t recognize him! Weird No ‘stache.
