In past years, our adult costume ideas have become somewhat elaborate and often ended in something that is not very comfortable. But, because I was so comfortable last year, and enjoyed myself so much more, I decided that from now on, comfort is a priority for our annual costumes.
At this year’s Annual Halloween Bash™, we decided to honour the 50’s. I found a full circle skirt with a puppy applique down one side. This was a costume skirt, not a real one, but it came with a matching stripped top.
I selected one of Hub’s navy cardigans which looked very “Riverdale-like”. I used my word processing software to create on big R on a single page, printed and cut it out. Then I attached the R to some red material and cut out the shape in the material. I hand-sewed the large red “R” to the cardigan. (The R is relevant as my own high school was Renfrew Collegiate Institute, back in the day). I had no worries about ruining his sweater. My hand-sewing is so bad, it should all just fall out by the end of the night anyway. I faked the saddle shoes by grabbing some inexpensive plain white runners and painting in the black with a magic marker.
Hub agreed to go as an aging musician, rocking an Elvis-type wig and a shiny onesie. We bought the suit in total at the Halloween supply store! He rocked it of course. Thank you very much.
Our hosts (that is, my brother and sister-in-law) got very creative this year and even got their t-shirts and hats made for the occasion.
Party Food
As always and as requested, I took deviled eggs. This time, I cut up black olives as fake the spiders, but ran out of time so just did half the platter. If you plan to do that, allow lots of fiddling time to slice up the olives and then place them on the platter. Anyway, these things look quite realistic, and I was getting genuinely creeped me out just making them. Strange, it was the first year the eggs didn’t all get eaten too… May have to rethink for next year!
