Just a few sweaters

As expected, Winter can be darn cold here in Canada.  It has been especially cold in the last little while, so it is definitely time to make some cozy sweaters.

Last month, I bought and downloaded the Finlayson Sweater pattern from Thread Theory. As I mentioned at the time, Hub really liked his comfy pattern / fabric combination. I used the same pattern, same grading measurements for another sweater in his fashion line-up.  It was really the same fabric though it had a different design. I was surprised when he picked it out actually.  He is Canadian, but a naturalized one imported from the U.K.  So wearing a moose pattern seemed a bit of a stretch for him.

He was going to wear it tonight for our regular darts Thursday night league gathering, but the temperature strangely dropped from around -20° Celsius to a balmy 0°. Strange weather indeed – we may have to wear summer clothes tonight! Apparently, we will be back in the deep freeze by the weekend.  Great, all that melting will freeze into playful sheets of ice.  We do have plans to play Catan with friends this weekend so the weather shouldn’t affect that anyway.  I do love a good game of Catan!

Laundry Day Tee (LDT)

I also modified (another) laundry day tee (LDT) from LoveNotions in the same kind of thick fleece for myself.  Was going with the cowl neck variation this time, which actually increased the yardage by quite a bit, but the fleece was so thick it wouldn’t double over and fall down.  When I tried it on, my full head and then some was encased in collar.  Arguably, it might have been an improvement on the face, but it did make it difficult to see or hear – senses I sometimes put to some effect at darts.  I tried folding it down, but that thickness made me look like I was wearing a hula hoop around my neck.  I cut it in half and resewed which is better.  It does feel a little rigged though.

Really like this fabric – so soft and cosy and it looks really nice. I bought it at Fabricland so I should find out what it is exactly – weight-wise.  I hope it will fare well over several washings.

Interesting that the same pattern in this fabric looks completely different from my previous tops.  I find that it doesn’t fit that well into the sewing machine so all construction is with the serger for this one. That machine is so loud and fast and just cuts through everything – like a lawnmower or motorcycle!  Yup, now I’m envisioning riding a motorcycle sometimes when using it (with just a little crazy gleam in the eyes).  I should have to add “Born to be Wild” on my sewing playlist!

I used my Janome CoverPro for the hemming though which gave me that opportunity to fiddle with the settings on the Janome a bit.  I found that the only adjustment that really made a difference was the foot pressure.
