Such as nice pattern from Patterns from Pirates. This was the very first top I made back in 2016. I still struggle with the sleeves being too “puffy” but I thought it might be my fabric selection. But, ugh, this blue one was too puffy for me and it is unwearable. I reeled back when I tried it on. No, no no.
So, I looked for a much flimsier fabric and found this beautiful pink fabric which is really very attractive. I also followed a hack where the front neckline was modified to use an facing rather than the binding – which is so much cleaner and neater looking don’t you think?
I like the facing a lot, but it is constantly shifting. I think a few stitches to hold it down would be best. Anyway, had a lot of compliments on this. I wore a small white shell top underneath, but on a hot summer day I don’t even think it is essential.
I finally feel like I am really starting to “up my game” and getting some better results with my sewing skills. I wore this recently and got a ton of compliments and then all the seams frayed along the sleeves. Blast!
Note: I took this with me for a free local serger lesson and it turns out I did it all with a 3-thread serge. I was advised to re-serge all the seams with a 4-thread serger stitch and so this top in back in my summer rotation!
So, one more version of this to share. I found this soft cottony fabric with a nice pattern on it. I still really like the EE pattern, so I decided to give it another try. I cut carefully and focused on the right seam allowances. I sewed carefully and meticulously. I love the result. I think these last two are among my favourite makes to date. I wear it often.
