Nerdy Halloween 2018

Other than my son’s wedding, I was also working for about three months in the late summer and fall this year.  So, yep, I didn’t put as much forethought (e.g., sewing) into the costumes this year.  As I mentioned, I really like being comfortable so that was also my focus this year as we went nerdy.

I really enjoyed these costumes though. We were nerdy! We got some bow ties and suspenders and added a pocket protector each and “hello, my name is…”. (As I explained numerous times over the evening, yes we put them upside down on purpose!). We also each had a kick-me sign on our backs.

I had two pony tails, but they are uneven so one is further back.  I originally bought some black “nerdy” glasses, but then remembered that I might have an old pair of glasses.  Sure enough, I found a pair I wore in the ’80’s which were perfect and I could still see which is a bonus for the designated driver!  I put some tape across the bridge of them, but it didn’t show up that well in the pics.

Hub looked great with his hair all gelled down and the perfect glasses.  I think he may have been a bit disappointed that costumes this year didn’t include any makeup for him though.

Halloween is in October

I added my favourite slippers – two small boston terrier faces with ears flapping on the side – which turned out to be my biggest mistake this year. It started to snow in the late afternoon. We arrived at the party a little late(nerds are always late right?). so all the closest s pots to park were taken. It wasn’t far walking wise, but my feet were thoroughly drenched as I couldn’t avoid the puddles along the way. The whole road was soaking and so were my feet.

Once I arrived though and we were all laughing and sharing our costumes that by the time I could change my feet coverings, they were practically dry anyway!  For food, I took a huge tray of cheese to add to the buffet table.  I was specifically instructed not to chop up the cheese into small cubes since they didn’t sit on crackers well that way. Not being a raw cheese eater, I submitted to the finer minds on this one and raked the cheese into wide squiggly slides. The cheese eaters loved it.

Finally, this year was also a great event because my son and his wife showed up as well. They rummaged a bit through our costume closet and came up with something to wear from there. I didn’t take many pictures this year though, not sure why. Brother and sister-in-law were groovy.
