At the Westminster Dog show in the US, Boston Terrier are in the non-sporting group. Not sure why. They are rather sporting fellows really.
The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) also classifies Boston Terriers in the non-sporting group. I note of course that they are not in the terrier group! Apparently, the name “terrier” for our lovely bostons is a bit of a misnomer and they may have had a bit of terrier in their background, but no longer qualify for that group.
According to the CKC, the non-sporting group is made up of dog breeds that don’t
“…quite seem to fit in any other group…. The varied group includes three bull breeds – the Boston Terrier, Bulldog and French Bulldog. In addition, there are a number of Spitz breeds, such as the Shiba Inu, Schipperke, Keeshond and Chow Chow.”
